Hotel Nanta Jeju

It’s quite close to the Gwaneumsa trail head for hiking up Hallasan, and the hotel sits a bit above sea level. There are also hikes starting behind the hotel. It has everything from a convenience store and restaurant to HEATED smart toilets!!

The rooms are cozy and quite big, with decent temperatures, and the scenery is superb. It’s a nice hotel near Hallasan, though it gets crowded, including with local tourists. There’s a small gym but no pool. Like other hotels in S.Korea, they don’t provide amenities. You can adjust the shower temperature. A couple of things to know: Bus 441, which stops in front of the hotel, runs for fewer hours. The male reception staff could be more informative and a little politer, especially for a 4 stars hotel. We’ve stayed at smaller hotels where reception staff spoke more fluent English.

The service was disappointing from the start. My 7 Yr son and I arrived with luggage, but nobody came to help us. He was excited to see the private pool outside the room and jumped in right away. When I went to get him ready to shower, I found no toiletries. I wanted to go downstairs to buy some, but they’d given us only one room card, and my son needed the light in the room while he was in the toilet, so I was stuck. We managed to sort those things out, then discovered the fridge wasn’t cold at all, even though we’d bought two packets of milk. When I called reception, they couldn’t understand us. I don’t think an appliance that doesn’t do its job is a way to preserve the environment, especially when there’s a convenience store downstairs selling disposable toiletries. For short term travelers like us, leftover toiletries won’t be taken home. I’d suggest providing larger bottles for guests and making sure appliances work properly instead of trying to cut costs. They also set the air con to a certain temperature. When they misunderstood us about the fridge, they lowered the air con to 18C instead. Now it’s stuck at 18C 😢

We came to hike Hallasan, and the Gwaneumsa Trail is very close, about a 7min taxi ride away. The room was clean, had good views, and included a bathtub. The hotel restaurant wasn’t very appealing, though there’s also a barbecue place that was okay. Staff were okay but not especially friendly. There isn’t much else around, so we had to take the bus into the city. We probably wouldn’t stay here if we weren’t hiking.
