Jeju Azi Hostel

A good place.

I appreciated getting restaurant and transport suggestions before booking, but some things during the stay were disappointing. The air conditioner was broken. I only discovered that the next day, and they moved me after I brought it up. They kept emphasizing that the replacement room normally cost more, and made disapproving faces while talking about the electricity bill. That left me uncomfortable. I was also surprised and upset to come back from an outing and find the owner in my room cleaning without telling me beforehand. Cleaning or inspections should be announced in advance. They have some good points, and paying closer attention to these basic matters could make this a better place.

Keep in mind this is a hostel, and the review should take its price and service into account. Rooms cost 30,000 to 60,000 won, so expecting hotel standards doesn't seem fair. If hygiene is a major concern, hostel-level accommodation may not be the right choice. More specifically, it seems like a slightly renovated former inn. We stayed in a family room with a bed in mid-March, paying 60,000 won a night, including the weekend. Once the booking was confirmed, we got an email with directions from the airport and details about restaurants and attractions. The facilities are inn or B&B style, but nothing was functionally wrong. I was concerned about the chilly spring weather, but the floor was warm and the electric mattress worked well. I turned its temperature down to sleep. The owner is friendly and kind, gives a welcome drink, and is helpful with questions. Unless you ask otherwise, they clean daily and change the towels. The Wi-Fi, heating, and hot water all worked well. For the price, this is good value, and the location is excellent, especially given that Gwandeokjeong isn't a particularly good tourist destination. I'd stay again on a budget trip to Jeju Island. I'd heard a lot about Jeju Island being overpriced, but surprisingly didn't run into that on my itinerary. This accommodation is where that started. It's on the third floor with no elevator, just stairs, so keep that in mind if you're carrying a lot of luggage.

For three nights, I stayed in a Single (B) room. I was touched that they texted me a map of nearby restaurants when I booked. The male owner was kind, carried my suitcase, and offered me orange juice. The room was warm, with an electric blanket, and the hot water worked well. The shower was small. They offer cleaning for guests staying multiple nights, but moving things around is inconvenient, so I asked them to skip it on the second day. I also liked that there was no curfew for coming and going. The location is excellent, with convenience stores, restaurants, cafes, and bars nearby. I'd recommend it to people traveling on foot. The location is the best.
