Poem House

The view of Hamdeok Beach is nice, and the accommodation starts on the third floor above the GS25 convenience store. Parking is in front of the store, but the space is pretty cramped. I was shown a room described as 40 square meters, though it looked small. It had a balcony and a relatively spacious bathroom. There’s a small kitchenette with a few dishes and cups, spoons, chopsticks, and a pot, but it doesn’t seem set up for cooking meals. The water dispenser and microwave are by the elevator. The bed is very low, and the mattress wasn’t comfortable. There were four thin towels. I also heard a steady, repeating noise in the distance, like a motorcycle starting. They said they’d look for the source and do something about it, but nothing happened. Luckily it didn’t make noise in the middle of the night or early morning. It started after 6 AM, and I had no idea where it was coming from.

The view was superb, but there were too many things to put up with. The location is handy for nearby restaurants, and the low price may suit people who aren’t sensitive to smells. I’m more sensitive than most, and despite many trips to Jeju and stays in different places, this was my first guesthouse-like setup. The bedding and pillows smelled like urine, so I kept spraying perfume to get to sleep. I’d suggest bringing room spray or Febreze. The bathroom kept smelling unless I turned on the ventilation fan. Early in the morning there was noise from people sitting on the chairs in front of the first-floor convenience store, and the door uses a key.

The room was clean and spacious, and the surrounding amenities were excellent. Step out onto the first floor and you’re right at Hamdeok Beach. Still, there was some noise, and both the sofa and bed were uncomfortable. The staff member spoke only Chinese.

The owner upgraded my room, so I ended up with a huge space that felt like an apartment. It was a great stay, with the best ocean view right across from Hamdeok Beach. There are places to eat nearby, and I’d recommend it if you want a spacious room at a decent motel price.
