Shilla Stay Jeju Airport

The location is great, close to a lot around the city, and parking is plentiful. Breakfast was good, with nice options and lots of seating. The space turns into a bar at night, and the snacks there are delicious. The hotel covers the basics, but service fell short in several ways. The pillows were too soft, and they couldn't or wouldn't provide extras. Housekeeping was inconsistent, and once they'd finished on our floor, there was no further help. The shower spray felt harsh and prickly, with no adjustment. There's no room service. Staff weren't especially friendly and seemed reluctant to go the extra mile, which felt rigid and unlike a hotel.

The rooms were comfortable, very clean, and seemed well maintained, with new-feeling facilities and towels changed every day. But the front desk left me with a poor impression, especially as a non-Korean speaker. Their translation system seemed to default from Korean to Chinese even when I spoke English, so communication was difficult. A couple of times, staff seemed impatient when I asked for help. When I asked them to book a jumbo taxi to the airport, the reply felt reluctant and came with little explanation. That unfriendly service affected the stay, and I probably wouldn't choose to return.

The room was clean and looked like the photos. I stayed one night because it's so close to the airport. Shops are nearby, including Selbing, Olive Young, Shilla Duty Free, shoe shops, and New World supermarket.

The air conditioning was set at 27 degrees, though I thought the usual average was 20-20. At breakfast, the water on the beverage counter ran out. They didn't refill it unless we told them, and even after we did, it was still empty when I finished. Check-in was frustrating. This hotel has 300 rooms, yet at 1:30 they couldn't accommodate guests checking in. Korean guests arriving at 2:45 were allowed to check in, while we foreigners had to wait. At 3, they still left us waiting in the lobby unless we went to ask, even though they knew we were there. The front desk staff weren't friendly. For a 4-star hotel, I didn't expect a cleaning lady to work right by my feet when I needed to do my job. Staff attitude wasn't good if you didn't speak Korean. Our Trip.com booking was supposed to include $30 per person for the duty-free store, but nobody even mentioned it. I messaged Shilla hotel's Facebook page, which seemed active and posted often, and got no answer. Go to another hotel if you don't want the same experience.
