There’s no lobby or lounge, so this works best if you want a private room to shower and sleep in, then get up early and head out. It can be a decent fit if that’s what you need, even though I didn’t come away with a positive overall impression. For 30,000 won you can get a single room, which is cost-effective for a solo traveler. Heating and cooling work well, so I slept comfortably. But the shower is shared, and the room sink has no proper way to clear away moisture. Ventilation could be better, and the shared shower hygiene wasn’t well maintained. Some of the different shampoos and facial cleansers were old and dried out, so bring your own toiletries.

The location is great, with most places close enough to walk to. The private room has a TV, and there’s a shared refrigerator. Bathrooms and showers are shared, including another shared one outside. There’s no shared kitchen or cooking space. I was surprised to find so many toiletries, including toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, body wash, foam cleansers, and shaving cream. Even some hotels don’t have all that. If you shave, you only need to bring a razor.

The room was clean, and it’s within walking distance of the noodle street and Dongmun Market. It seems like a good budget base for anyone planning to hike Hallasan, and I’m planning to come back. I booked an ondol room, but I wondered if laying a blanket on the floor really counts as one. They gave me a room with an IKEA bed instead. It felt drafty in winter, so I turned up the heater(?) temperature, but then the floor got so hot I woke up in the middle of the night. The shared bathroom wasn’t as clean as the room.

You get your room assignment, door code, and basic rules by text after booking, so you can check in and out without meeting anyone. I had a bunk-bed room to myself, with a sink in the room, which meant I didn’t need the shared bathroom for brushing my teeth or a quick morning shower. The shoe situation was odd. There’s a rack for slippers, but I wasn’t sure where to leave my shoes, and with nobody to ask it felt unclear. It wasn’t a huge problem. The old town and Dongmun Market are nearby, but expect at least a ten-minute climb up a steep hill wherever you’re headed.

From my room near the outer end of the hallway, I could hear people talking downstairs and walking up the stairs very clearly. Otherwise, it’s convenient for visiting Mt. Halla and easy to get to Dongmun Market. If I travel alone again, I’d definitely stay here.
