The smell was strong throughout the room, bedding, and towels. The towels hadn’t dried properly and smelled awful when I wiped my face. Some pillows smelled so stale that I wondered whether the place was even cleaned or maintained. For bedding, there was only a thin sheet of cloth, either to cover yourself with or lie on, and a pillow. It was practically just a mattress, and really unpleasant. The bed also made me itchy when I lay down. I normally use blankets, but barely covered myself with half of one and the rest felt like sleeping in a sleeping bag. The blanket was too short to cover my feet properly, and I kept trying to cover them in my sleep because they were itchy. By morning, my ankles were swollen. I suspect flea or other bug bites, but I’m not a doctor and don’t know what caused it. I was reluctant to tell the owner, worried I’d embarrass myself, so I checked out without saying anything. I think the bed was the cause, since I’ve stayed in other guesthouses recently and this hadn’t happened. I wondered if it was the food, but it was just like the fast food I usually eat. The itching started before I laid out the blanket, so I think the bed was most likely to blame. They advertised the place as being geared toward small parties, but I couldn’t tell whether there were other guests until I arrived. If parties were allowed or not, they should have said so beforehand. They only sent additional information after I got there, including things they hadn’t announced earlier. The location was also inconvenient, far from the entertainment district. The hygiene and service were the worst. This was the worst guesthouse I’ve ever stayed in.
