The room Damsil was so clean, roomy, and warm that we had a really comfortable stay. There's a separate barbecue room, which was great, and both bathrooms had the supplies we needed. The owner was very kind, too. I'd come back in a heartbeat!
The service from the owners made a big impression on me. The owner's wife helped us with recycling and offered to bring mosquito repellent if we needed it. Where else do you meet people like that? My husband and I stayed two nights at Bium Pension after finding it online about two weeks before our summer vacation in Pyeongchang. It was under five minutes from the Pyeongchang Interchange, and the male owner welcomed us warmly and helped us park. We had the Songsil room near the parking area, so getting our luggage inside was easy. The grounds were beautiful, with old pine trees, a neat lawn, little plaster sculptures, and lines of white towels. The walls had warm pictures of butterflies and girls, and the decor had a personal style that money couldn't simply buy. I was too shy to ask if the owners had studied art. The first floor is small, with a kitchen and bathroom, plus a private indoor barbecue area by the entrance. It has a separate, roomy wooden table, mosquito coils, electric repellents, and wall fans. The spiral wooden stairs up to the second floor were fun to see. Upstairs was exceptionally tidy, with a bed, air conditioner, TV, sofa, and little tea table, all pretty enough to photograph. There was an outdoor spot beside the room where we could sip tea and enjoy the cared-for scenery. From there, we could see the river flowing nearby. My husband and I went down to the river by the back gate morning and evening to catch fish ourselves. We made a spicy fish stew with ingredients we'd brought from home, including perilla leaves, pumpkin, onions, Cheongyang peppers, and green onions. It tasted amazing, and it saved us a lot on vacation costs. Jumunjin Port is an hour away, where you can enjoy fresh seafood. On the way home, we bought plenty of affordable semi-dried Pacific cod, flounder, and rockfish to give to friends and eat ourselves. We'd seen online photos before arriving, including mention of the place being on TV, and were impressed when the real place lived up to them. For me, this is a vacation spot I'd highly recommend!
The pension is pretty and comfortable, and the owner is friendly. We couldn't go swimming because the water was high, but we still had a nice stay. The bunk beds were especially good, and everything was clean.
It's a quiet, pretty pension beside a valley, known as a filming location for the TV show 'Jjak'. The detached unit has an overhang above the barbecue area, so you can grill even when it's raining. I stayed in the 'Han' room, a duplex with a sensible layout and a spacious, clean kitchen. The table and living room are downstairs; upstairs is an ondol room with a bed, which worked well for a family or small group. There was just one bathroom and shower, and it's small. No bathtub, and the shower head is by the sink, which made showering awkward. Still, it's a nice place for a quiet getaway.
