White Cabin

The restaurant downstairs was the best part for me. The owner and chef was helpful, courteous, and attentive, and helped me check in when I arrived very late. His dak-galbi was amazing, and the draft beers were good too. Do eat and drink here if you’re in town. The place is clean, with spacious rooms and big windows looking toward the ski slopes, right across from Phoenix Pyeongchang. It was my first time booking a pension house, and I hadn’t realized it’s like an extended-stay hotel room with a kitchen. As a traditional Korean accommodation, it has heated floors and a wet bathroom where the shower, sink, and toilet aren’t separated. There aren’t chairs or tables, which may feel unfamiliar to Western travelers, though sitting on the warm floor was actually quite comfortable. There’s enough room for a small group or family, parking is free, and the location is perfect.

For what I paid, I’d call the two-night stay above average. The service was OK, and being able to speak English helped. The room looked a bit smaller than the pictures, and although I booked for three, we got twin beds plus a futon on the floor. The heated floor made it rather uncomfortable at night.

Not having a car meant walking up and down the street for our two ski days, but Phoenix Snow Park, Phoenix Hotel, and Blue Canyon were all within walking distance. We also found plenty at Central Plaza, including School Food, Paris Baguette, Baskin Robbins, a game arcade, and a bowling center. Chicken and Beer across from White Cabin was a hit with our teens. The ski package arranged through the stay worked well for beginners like us. The kitchenette was handy for our family, and the room was decently clean when we arrived. The manager was helpful arranging an airport transfer at a reasonable price and met us on arrival. On a rainy, cold day, Hotel Manager and Owner Mr Jaden Li even kindly drove us to Bong Pyeong Market. It was a cosy stay for me and my family. My children, aged 12, 14, 18, and 19, had a great time.

The receptionist spoke in a way I found insulting, which was disturbing, and the room was overpriced. The one good thing was that they could speak English. I wouldn't recommend it.
