Kensington Hotel Pyeongchang

Breakfast was good, the room stayed nicely warm, and there was plenty of parking. The hotel also has a kids' cafe and pool, so there were children everywhere, but that wasn't an issue for us. The real problem was the bathroom: there was no hot water at the sink, shower, or tub. The front desk said to turn on every hot water faucet and wait an hour. Such a waste. The noodle bar also needs to be moved to the far end. Everyone heads for it, then gets stuck at the start of the line. Management should think about that.

We booked the Deluxe Family Room for four. The room price initially seemed fair, but there were too many problems for it to feel like good value. The room stayed uncomfortably hot with the heating off, and the air conditioning didn’t work. Around 7 a.m., loud music came through the speakers and woke everyone. The bathroom had no window or ventilation, and the safe was unusable because it had no batteries. The bed called “large” was only about 180 cm wide, too narrow for two adults and a child. As another reviewer said, nearly everything costs extra. We’d prepaid for breakfast, but it wasn’t available, and although it was booked for two, we were charged for four. The “rich” continental breakfast was disappointing too, with no ham, jam, or cereals and very few choices, at about 20 USD per adult. Housekeeping couldn’t be requested because the room was automatically set to “Do Not Disturb.” The room rate itself was acceptable, so I’m giving two stars.

There are several restaurants nearby, the staff are friendly, and the place is both clean and very spacious. For a four star hotel, it’s worth every penny.

There’s a playground, a lake, and a farm for children, and some rooms even have separate beds for them. A very child-friendly hotel.
