I’m a local, and Romyzian Garden is a lovely place to visit in jeongseon, especially with family. It’s known for its traditional Hanok and beautiful garden, though I think the admission, about 15,000 wons, is expensive. You need to book ahead. A taxi is easier than a bus, and the ride from Jeongseon station takes 12 minutes and costs around 15,400 wons. I’d go in October to enjoy the fall weather, which is chilly and dry, though there can be haze. Because it’s at a high altitude, you can feel a cool breeze in summer. There’s also a photo spot on the promeande. The nearby romyzian garden restaurant is within walking distance. It serves western food, including pasta, salad, and steak. I recommend the pasta. It’s delicious and not spicy, and costs around 20,000 wons for one serving.

Even in winter, Jeongseon Romiji Garden is beautiful and peaceful. I wandered around slowly, taking in every corner. I visited last year during the hydrangeas and came back again this year. I’d love to return in every season.

I tried the glamping, but I wouldn’t recommend it in winter. The large cotton tent had floor heating and air conditioning. Even with the floor heat turned all the way up, most of the floor stayed cold, with only a few lukewarm patches. The air conditioner was set to 30 degrees, its highest setting, but only blew lukewarm air. I waited to see if it would get better, then contacted the manager when I couldn’t take the cold any longer. They brought me a small heater, and I slept with it. I’d brought a down jacket and pants just in case, but I was still cold, and my feet went numb. I badly needed booties. I’ve glamped in the middle of winter before, but I’ve never been this cold.

The walk from the ticket booth to the Romijian entrance is quite long. There are now shuttle buses, though they run irregularly. They used to make you walk uphill, and I chose to walk rather than wait. I visited in summer, when the hydrangeas were in full bloom, and the view from the cafe near the summit was spectacular.
