Courtyard by Marriott Pyeongtaek

The hotel was really clean, and the staff were friendly and professional. My husband and I booked it on the day, a Thursday, because of some mishaps. The price seemed decent, though it may depend on when or how far ahead you book. The awkward part was the location: walkable restaurants are a bit far, so you need a car or have to eat at the hotel. There's a nice lobby restaurant, but we chose room service. It was pleasant enough, though the chef didn't live up to what we'd expected from the hotel. The fish and chips were a good size but very bland, and the steak was bland too. For a one-day stay, it still beats walking out to some local restaurants. This is a beautiful hotel, and I'd recommend it if you're in the area.

The friendly, welcoming staff were a bright spot, and breakfast was decent if I got there right when it opened at 0630. But the stay was frustrating enough that I'd rather not return unless I had to. I was there for work for 7 days in early December, after the military bases had no availability. The room looked new and modern, but cleanliness was poor: there was hair from previous guests in the bathroom, shower area, and walkway, and it was never cleaned up. My room was serviced maybe 3 times that week, and the bed was made so badly I could've done better myself. Parking was my biggest irritation. The lots are far from the entrance and awkwardly placed, so after a full workday it meant walking half a mile to get in. Hotel events in the restaurants and ballrooms made it even worse. Breakfast items weren't replenished quickly, and if you sleep in, don't expect nice hot food. There isn't much around the hotel, just a huge factory and construction that I noticed. Restaurants up the street are an option if you're willing to walk a mile. Plan ahead for food: they don't allow drivers or food deliveries, and there was no community microwave. The only one I saw seemed to be behind the front desk, maybe in an employee lounge. It didn't feel like a safe or secure place to warm food, and I didn't want to go back and forth if it wasn't heated long enough, so I'd rather eat it cold. That left the hotel restaurants or room service, neither of which was anything to rave about. The pool also costs a fee for EACH entry, which is ridiculous, and you have to wear a swim cap. I wasn't planning to use it on a work trip anyway. As for the “gym,” it had 2 treadmills, 1 bench, and a few weights. In the morning everything was taken, so I went late at night to be alone. For a Marriott hotel it was embarrassing, roughly the size of my hotel room without the beds. Insane.

The staff were the friendliest I've ever encountered at a hotel, and the stay was such a pleasure. It's close to some great restaurants, though not close enough to walk. If you need ideas for food, the staff will happily give you a list based on what you like. I highly recommend Olive Chicken!

Breakfast was phenomenal, and the rooms and common areas were always clean. The staff were extremely friendly and helped with everything we needed. It was easy for an American to enjoy the stay, with the hotel conveniently near the expressway and easy access to markets and other things. I'll definitely stay here for future work in the area.
