Hotel Mfelice

I could hear constant stomping and banging through the walls; the soundproofing was almost nonexistent. The room had no ventilation, and even the toilet felt like it had better air. When I asked to move rooms, I was told they were all the same. Quite possibly the worst hotel I’ve stayed in.

The staff are nice, but I can’t recommend staying here. The sheets gave me a rash on each of my three visits. After the second stay I thought it might be coincidence, but having it happen again made that seem unlikely. Also, the AC is switched off in October, so you have to open the windows and put up with street noise all night.

The location is the only thing going for this place. The lobby reeks of sewage, the shower grout is covered in mold, and the bathroom smelled of urine when I first stepped in, even though it looked clean. There were questionable stains on the walls, carpets, and even a lamp. It’s an old, musty, smelly place that seems to get very little attention when it comes to cleaning. Mosquitoes bit us all night, leaving us with more than 20 bites between us. 🥲 The AC didn’t work at all, and the room got hot and stuffy even though we were there in November, not during Seoul’s summer. Getting to the elevator was unpleasant too: there’s no dedicated ground-floor entrance, so you have to pass boxes of liquor and other restaurant supplies in the building. Each time we went in, a group of people was smoking outside the entrance. We changed hotels after two nights. Never again.

We only stayed one night, but the suite worked well for our family of two adults and two children. It was spacious enough, clean, and had a huge tub and a comfortable bed. They’d also left a bottle of wine in the room. The staff were very nice, and we had no trouble communicating despite the language barrier. We’d happily come back.
