Sokcho Jaja Ocean View Pension

The beach is right across from the property, so the view is nice, but that hard bed made sleeping difficult. It was chilly outside and no wind came in, yet the room got hot. When I went to ask for the missing air conditioner remote, the owner got angry. I used to stay here often when visiting Sokcho because of the beachfront location. I won’t be returning.

The room had a spacious terrace, and on a clear day you can see Ulsanbawi Rock well from here. Rain and clouds obscured the mountains during my stay. Mount View seems excellent at 50,000 won on weekdays, but cigarette odor hit me as soon as I walked in, so it felt like sleeping in a smoking room. In winter, the hot water pressure was too weak. The whole stay felt like a light drizzle.

It was quiet and good value, and the room was clean and tidy. The ocean view would have been great through the floor-to-ceiling windows, but it was too cloudy to see it.

For 60,000 won on a weekday, the unfriendly service was disappointing. The facilities were very old, from the bathroom and dining table to the sofa, which looked like wood painted purple. The windows hadn’t been cleaned, so there was no view. It had an attic-room feel.
