Courtyard by Marriott Suwon

We had a great stay, with comfortable, spacious rooms and a lovely view. The hotel is easy to get around from, and connects directly to the mall Galleria, with a convenience store, restaurants, and shops close by. The food was really tasty and the service was amazing. We had a hard time finding taxis, but the staff kept trying to help. One morning it was raining and we were in a hurry, and a man whose name I don't know came to us from the bus stop and helped us find a taxi. When we checked out, we needed one that could fit four suitcases, lots of bags, and a stroller for our trip to Seoul. Daeny and her friend, maybe Hillary, though I may have forgotten the name, called taxis one by one to see who would take us. We finally got one thanks to her. Thank you so much, Daeny. We felt lucky to meet such kind people, and we'd love to come back.

The in-house restaurant, Suwon Kitchen, serves flavorful food in huge portions at a reasonable price. Breakfast was okay too, and the laundry service was a lifesaver. Right in the middle of Suwon, the hotel is surrounded by everything you could want. Check-in and checkout were easy, and the employees were polite and smiling. Special thanks to David, who checked us out and was friendly, polite, and competent. I'd recommend it and would stay again.

The beds were very comfortable, and it's a beautiful property. I hope management fixes the maintenance problems and keeps the AC running consistently. The frontline staff responded through the Marriott app and were genuinely apologetic. I told them I saw these as room maintenance and operational issues, not a reflection of their efforts. I was disappointed that my Premier Suite reservation didn't get an Executive Suite upgrade despite my Bonvoy Titanium status. Looking back, I'm glad I didn't book a standard room just hoping for a suite upgrade. When we arrived, the suite smelled musty because the AC wasn't on and only weak outside air was circulating. That improved for one night, but it got warm again on later nights. On the third night, the temperature rose and I couldn't sleep, so I contacted service and they turned the AC back on. The next night they brought a standing air cooler, which helped, but hummed all night. I chose a Marriott expecting basics like dependable air conditioning, and it was disappointing to feel guest comfort might be compromised intermittently to save operating costs. The shower drain was partly clogged and water pooled to about 1 cm while I showered. For the first three nights, a faint sewage smell came up when that happened. I'd also advise securing luggage or valuables when leaving the room. I'm not accusing anyone, but I found one of my GAP t-shirts missing from my garment bag the night before checkout. I reported it, and got only a brief apology in a rather casual response.

The front desk and reception staff were five stars, and the stay was okay overall, with no major concern beyond the details below. The room was acceptably clean, though some parts fell below that bar. The bathroom glasses had a film on them, and the furniture was stained or soiled. They should review room conditions regularly. All in all, it was an okay stay and still worth considering.
