Utop Marina Hotel & Resort

We really enjoyed our stay at UTOP Marina. The ocean view from the nice rooms was great, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The buffet was amazing. At 30,000 won per person, I thought it was worth it.

We enjoyed the pub downstairs, especially its wide choice of food. Our room was clean and had a lovely sea view, and the location right by the water was great. I’d come back if I’m in Yeosu again.

The sheets had a stain and a few tiny hairs on them, which made us wonder how thoroughly the room had been cleaned before our stay. There was also tissue covering one of the ceiling lights. In room 705, the TV screen was badly damaged, as if it had been hit, and the set was tilted. We were exhausted after a full day on tour and only staying one night, so we let it go at the time. After we checked out, the hotel called our tour guide the next day about the damage, possibly because the next guests had reported it. I suppose we were treated as suspects. We were left wondering whether the previous guests had been contacted to clarify things, and why housekeeping hadn’t noticed the TV when cleaning. The service was poor, and we hope management takes a closer look at housekeeping, which fell below what we’d expect from a four-star hotel.

The room itself was clean, but the corner room at the far end had a partly blocked view. There were no slippers, and the bathroom layout was awkward. The washing machine still had moisture in it, so I had to wash it before using it. The check-in process set a bad tone. Even with many guests arriving, they stuck to a 3 pm start and had everyone queue for a waiting number. I wish they’d been more flexible about early check-in. Guests should feel welcome, but I was already unhappy as soon as I arrived. Staff service was extremely poor, and the hotel seemed not to have taught even the basics of service. I stay in hotels around 100 days a year or more, and this was my first experience of a place with a five-star location and motel-level service. It’s the worst hotel I’ve stayed in.
