Astra Hotel

There’s only one small elevator, and it fits two people with their luggage at once. The room was a little tight, but two people could open two big suitcases in it. The bed was small too, and I nearly fell out while sleeping. Cleanliness was fine, with no complaints, and breakfast had a decent selection.

We were three people and had enough room for all of us. The location was great, close to the metro station and bus stops, and I loved the breakfast menu. I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Almaty.

Update: It’s now night six, and things have got worse. Even after we changed rooms, the shower still leaked. The bed frames were so badly made they broke in half, and they were literally plywood. The door frame was cracked and broken too. The mirrors were held up with just two bolts. In the room next to us, a mirror broke and injured my friend’s foot badly enough that she had to be hospitalized. I absolutely do NOT recommend this place unless you’re willing to take that risk. This started on day one: the bathroom shower leaked when turned on, there was hair on the floor that wasn’t ours, and the sticky bathroom floor smelled bad. I wouldn’t recommend booking a normal room. Upgrade if you can afford it, or don’t stay here.

Good location, and the heating was just right for winter. The hotel was good, and breakfast was really good too.
