Dami Hotel Almaty

Check-in and check-out were quick and easy, thanks to the very welcoming staff. My room was clean and roomy, with a big, comfortable bed, and I liked the simple modern look. The location worked well for me too. I’d happily come back to Dami Hotel for another comfortable, easy stay.

Good enough for a family, and the staff are kind.

I booked this hotel twice, once after landing in Almaty and again for my final night before flying home. By chance I was given Room 4, Level 2 both times, which made it easy to compare how things held up. It’s high up in the city, and drivers kept warning me about the traffic, especially at peak times. Still, there are lots of restaurants and cafés within walking distance if you’d rather not eat in the hotel lounge. Check-in was fast and painless on both arrivals. On my first stay the room was spacious and clean, and the bathroom was roomy too. The water pressure was fantastic. The towel hooks were placed so awkwardly that getting a towel without wetting the floor took some maneuvering. The bathtub was spotless but slippery, which could be an issue for someone older or less steady on their feet. I didn’t bother trying the TV, since hotel TV setups always seem to involve a whole network sign-in adventure. The aircon took a few minutes to figure out because it was disguised as a picture frame on the wall, but it worked beautifully once I found it. Breakfast was à la carte, mostly Western-style, and a nice way to start the day. On the last night, the blanket in the same room seemed smaller. Maybe it had shrunk, or maybe they figured I didn’t need a full-sized comforter. I could only stay covered by curling up like a prawn. The aircon also kept shutting off every 20 seconds. I changed its batteries and called reception, and even wondered briefly if there was a ghostly roommate. Nothing helped, so I gave up and accepted the heat. Would I return? Probably. The service was friendly and the room comfortable when everything worked. It had a few oddities, but they gave me some travel stories.

This is in a residential neighborhood, so you need a car to reach it. The place is about like a Korean motel. There’s a Korean restaurant right next door. Breakfast is optional, though the food all tastes pretty much the same.
