Hostel 211A is clean, safe, and friendly. I've stayed twice and would come back. There's a riverside path right beside it that continues up into the mountains, and the hostel is near a ‘Magnum’ supermarket. Getting there from the downtown stop for the #92 airport bus is an easy 7-8 minute walk.

You can cook here, and for Almaty, where hostels seem short on equipment compared with international standards, it's probably one of the better options. One staff member was kind and attentive, but the owner or some other staff aren't very friendly and can be demanding. Sometimes they seem a bit racist toward people with Asian skin. There also isn't English-speaking staff.

The hostel is fairly clean, and the man at reception the next day was nice and helpful. But when we arrived, the woman there spoke no English and seemed annoyed that we wanted to check in or ask anything. The rooms weren't ready, and we only got sheets after asking. Towels cost extra.

Just checked in tonight and I'm surprised by how spotless this hostel is for such a low price. The staff and other guests are really friendly, and the location is ideal. Absolutely recommend it for all kinds of travelers. 👍☺️☺️☺️

Poor hostel. The Russian woman at reception was rude and didn't know a word of English. How can someone be at the front desk in the center of town without any English?
