Ask for Jaslan if you need a driver. He took us to Charyn Canyon and Altyn Emel for a very reasonable price compared with the expensive companies we found online. There are lots of Kazach students among the guests, and the staff are friendly. For me, this is easily the best hostel in all of Kazachstan.

Nice enough, and pretty cool.

The rooms, kitchen, and showers were all clean, and the receptionists were always warm and welcoming. They made tasty breakfasts with different dishes and fruit each day. I was in Almaty on a business trip from August 6th to the 30th, and chose this hostel after reading online reviews. The location was great, with everything within walking distance, and I loved the friendly atmosphere. The weekend brought mountain hikes, visits to Almaty's sights, and lovely guitar sing-alongs in the evening. I left with wonderful memories and hope the hostel prospers and keeps succeeding creatively. I'll stay here on future business trips too. Everything was great!

Most of the guests seemed to be permanent residents, and the crowd was under 30, but everyone was quiet and polite. The four-bed rooms are paired with separate toilets and baths in the hallway, divided into men's and women's areas. The toilets were clean, and the general cleanliness was acceptable, though the kitchen details could use attention. That depends on the hostel staff.
