Renion Hills Almaty Hotel

It’s one of the best hotels in Almaty, and I’d recommend it for individuals or families. The breakfast buffet could use more variety, though. When we asked the waiter for omelet eggs, he said they couldn’t make them because there were other choices on the buffet.

This hotel ruined our business trip. Just a few hours before I arrived, they told me they were overbooked and sent me to another hotel with a terrible room, as shown in the photos. They said they’d arrange a taxi for the transfer, but didn’t. My colleague had booked and already paid through a travel agency, but the hotel hadn’t even told him about the overbooking and refused to take him when he arrived. Staff weren’t helpful and wouldn’t contact the manager, saying she “doesn’t work after 1830.” He had to find another hotel after 9 p.m. This is my first and only one-star review after 100+ hotels. Stay away.

These notes are only about the two-single-bed room. I haven’t booked or checked the other rooms, and I still need to try more hotels before making a recommendation list. At Renion Hills Hotel, the carpet smelled odd and seemed dirty, shower water kept changing from hot to cold, and there was no shaving kit or handheld water sprayer (Shattaf) by the toilet. At Renion City Hotel, the bathroom door was difficult to lock because it didn’t line up, and there was no handheld water sprayer (Shattaf). At Uyut Hotel, there was no handheld water sprayer (Shattaf) or shaving kit, the shower drain left a puddle, and a bathroom pipe made noise now and then. For breakfast and room design, I’d put Renion City and Uyut equal, both ahead of Renion Hills. I recommend Renion City Hotel.

The room was very neat, with all the amenities available, and it’s a good hotel overall. It’s not too far from town, with lots of restaurants nearby. There’s also a 24/7 restaurant, a SPA, and a gym.
