The front desk staff were polite, but most problems were put down to “management policy,” with little practical help. For the price and the experience, I regret choosing this place, especially with nearby Airbnb options offering better value and more family-friendly policies. We had to pay for an additional guest because of our 5-year-old, even though the child didn’t use an extra bed. We were told this the morning after check-in. I understand that hotels have policies, but the lack of flexibility was disappointing. Even luggage storage came with an extra charge if we returned later. The room had a terrace, but its door was faulty. After opening it, we couldn’t close it without help from reception, and were advised not to use it. Several kitchen appliances were outdated or didn’t work properly, and when we asked for assistance, staff said they weren’t sure how to operate them. There wasn’t much soundproofing. We felt we had to keep the children quiet all the time, and once, while we were eating in the kitchen area, the front desk staff closed the door to keep their noise from carrying. Shower temperature was also extremely inconsistent, suddenly switching from very hot to cold and making it hard to shower comfortably.
I stayed at Nomad hotel-hostel several times and can highly recommend it. The location is very central, close to Dostyk Plaza shopping mall and Almaty's main sights, including New Square, Koktobe Hill Park, Terenkur river, and Panfilov Park. The hostel is very clean, with daily cleaning, and the Wi-Fi works really well. There are dorms as well as separate rooms for couples and families, and lockers are inside the rooms. Several bathrooms have showers and toilets. The comfortable kitchen has what you need to cook, eat, and store food; tea and coffee are complimentary, and filtered water was handy for refilling a bottle. Laundry service is available for a separate fee. The staff were friendly, helpful, lovely, and customer-oriented. P.S. If I understood correctly, Nomad hotel-hostel is rebranding and changing its name to Irbis Nomad hotel-hostel.
The shared dorm was clean and comfortable, and had a friendly atmosphere that made it easy to meet other travelers. I had a really good stay. Alya at reception was welcoming and kind, always ready to help with anything I needed. The recommendations from the staff for places to see and things to do around the city made my trip much better 👌🫰🫶
Great location, very close to a large mall. I stayed in a double room at Nomad Hostel. It was small but nice, and the dorm rooms I peeked into looked very good too. The staff were kind and spoke English.
The river running behind the place has the best autumn foliage. The hostel is very centrally located, with Koktobe hill top and republic square both within walking distance, so getting around is easy. Rooms are clean, bathrooms superb, and staff super friendly. Highly recommended.
