Voyage Hotel

The location was the one good thing, and September weather was lovely. I spent four nights in a standard room, and wouldn’t have chosen this hotel if it hadn’t been included in the package. The room was very small for two, more like a condo, and the bed and blanket didn’t suit two people either. The room’s interior, curtains, and floors were old and dirty, and there was a strange smell throughout the hotel. Lighting was poor in both the room and the rest of the hotel. Staff didn’t understand English, which made communication a big problem. Breakfast was pathetic for a vegetarian.

It’s a pity, because the rest of the hotel was pretty cool, and the staff were fine. But coming back after a warm, sweaty day in the city meant opening my room door to the smell of greasy fried food. I think the ventilation may be the problem, since there’s a restaurant on the ground floor. My room smelled as though someone was cooking greasy food all the time. I told reception. They asked me to wait it out and promised the smell would go away, but it never did.

The location made it easy to walk to all the city center attractions in Almaty, since they’re close by. My room was roomy and comfortable, and breakfast had a decent selection.

A nice, clean place with typical Central Asia accommodations. The A/C worked well and the blackout curtains were good. Breakfast began at 8am and had a good variety. It’s a good location, with nice restaurants within walking distance, and not too far from the airport.
