We booked this hotel for a business trip, then our client suddenly asked us to add three days to the stay. We extended the booking at about 1 PM, but by 5 PM that day the trip had been canceled. We went straight to the front desk to cancel the last two nights. We made clear that we were willing to pay for the first night even though we wouldn’t actually stay that night, and only wanted the other two nights canceled. A male staff member agreed and told us to make the change through the booking app. At 9 PM, the platform told us the hotel had refused the refund. I called again, and another front desk staff member said she had heard the earlier conversation and agreed with the arrangement too. She said they all agreed. I told the booking app the hotel had agreed, but when the process went through, the refund was still rejected by the hotel. This felt dishonest and inconsistent, and has left me extremely disappointed in the credibility of Kazakh hospitality. If the hotel won’t refund us, it should be transparent about that. Agreeing verbally and then rejecting it in the system is deeply disappointing. It makes it very hard to consider staying here again. 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

I only stayed one night, so didn’t have enough time to really experience the whole hotel. Still, the room was very clean and modern, and I had a good night's rest. I appreciated being able to open the window for fresh air. Holiday Inn is mediocre in many countries, but in Astana I’d gladly give it four stars. Breakfast was decent, with something for everyone, though the coffee machine could be better.
10/10
The complimentary buffet breakfast had a decent selection and good quality, and the price felt like good value. Holiday Inn Express Astana is a modern, budget-friendly option in the heart of the city, with easy access to major attractions for tourists and business travelers. It opened late last year, so the rooms are brand new, clean, and comfortable. Wi-Fi works well enough, and some staff have limited English, but service overall is good for Kazakhstan.
2/10
Be careful about the excessive early check-in charge. Holiday Inn Astana asked for 146.81 USD because we arrived before 14:00, even though many hotels don’t charge extra for arriving early. I won’t book there again.
10/10
The rooms feel quite new, and the bed was comfortable. A large window gives most rooms a nice city view. Breakfast was good, apart from the cafe. Wi-Fi worked, and there were various discounts on food and drinks.
