The shared kitchen and rooms were super clean. The staff were welcoming and polite, but also left you to yourself. There's a supermarket about a 15-minute walk away.

We were planning to leave the train at 7 am and check out at 7 pm, so we wanted to book two nights but actually check in for the day. The receptionist only works from 2 pm, though, so that wasn't possible. It's strange and confusing to turn away money like that. Hire a proper receptionist.
Katrina, the host, was very friendly and helped us with everything. The bathrooms are clean, and the rooms are bright and comfortable, though the mattresses are starting to need replacing. It's a large guesthouse, mostly occupied by people working in Astana rather than tourists, and it feels pretty impersonal.
The rooms and linens were clean, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. Toiletries like soap and shampoo aren't supplied. The toilets and showers are used but tolerable. Decent hostel, I'd recommend it.
They don't speak Kazakh, and there aren't any shops nearby.
