Saad Astana Hotel

The views from the upper floors are astonishing, and the location is perfect. I took off a star because the room cleaning didn’t feel up to five-star hotel level, and another because the staff weren’t very professional. Many of them didn’t speak English, which isn’t good when you work at a 5*hotel.

The room was clean, the breakfast was not bad, and I got a good price when I booked. Still, it was a mixed stay. The hotel has seen better days: the central location is very convenient, but service was so-so, the decor felt a bit dated, and the towels were very old and thin. The bed was too soft for me.

Lovely place, but it’s a bit expensive for what you get. Breakfast was woefully lacking for a 5 star hotel, and a lot of the kitchen and waiter staff don’t speak a word of English.

I had booked two nights at SAAD hotel for myself and two partners, with three separate reservations, one room each. We arrived at 9pm on Aug 1st. I’d asked not to be put in an end-room for religious reasons, but when I got upstairs, I found I was the only one assigned one. My partners were already settled in their rooms with their luggage and everything in place. I went back to the lobby to explain the issue. The front desk handed me the card back and said I could switch rooms with my partner. The guy at the desk without glasses was rude and unfriendly. I’d been friendly and kind during check-in, so I don’t understand why they gave me the room I’d specifically asked to avoid. Could it have been deliberate because of customers’ ethnics or nationalities?
