Yassi Hostel

Yassi Hostel has a warm, social feel, largely thanks to the owner, who's incredibly kind, funny, and welcoming. We didn't speak the same language, but somehow always understood each other. I heard his son speaks fluent English, though I haven't met him because I was too busy. The owner alone made everyone feel at home. He even shared delicious cherries and apples with me. I forgot to take room photos, so these are the cherries, cats, and food cooked by some Turkish people. The hostel is clean and comfortable. I slept like a baby every night in the cozy, quiet female-only room with three beds. The mixed dorm looked nice too, with privacy curtains on the beds. Showers had hot and cold water, the air conditioning worked perfectly in the heat, and I used the laundry facilities without any trouble. Its location is great for both sightseeing and getting around. It's nearer the cultural Old Town, while the shopping and entertainment area is only a few minutes' walk away. Bubble tea, ice cream, and good meals are close by. The hostel can arrange transport to Sauran and Otrar for 15,000 tenge each, or 30,000 tenge for both, with the price shareable among up to four people. I organized my own trip, but it was good to have the option. Gauhar Ana Mausoleum is about a €2 ride with Yandex Go. I'd recommend Sauran. When I visited, I was the only tourist there besides some random famous tiktoker, hahah. Seriously, it's so well preserved that I even found ancient relics on the ground, since it doesn't get many visitors. I'd happily stay here again.
