Elephant Boutique Hotel

We found rat droppings in our room when we checked in, but naively tried to ignore them. After a meal, we came back to find that a plastic bottle on the bed had been chewed. We complained and asked to move because it was already 11pm and probably too late to go elsewhere. I heard a noise in the hallway and went to look. A distressed man told me there was a rat in his room, and I realized the hotel had put him in the room we’d just left that same night. We went in together and saw the rat behind the TV. We chased it into the hallway and asked the owners to remove it. They said, “don’t worry I think everyone will be okay now”. The owners already knew about the problem: the woman told me rats had eaten her bananas one morning. Look closely and there are droppings all around the hotel. We asked for a refund, but they declined and gave us some change for coffee instead. I’m shocked this place is still open. Complete negligence by the staff/owner. We paid £25 for one night.

Good value: a comfortable bed, decent WiFi, a clean room and bathroom, and a hot shower. It’s a five-minute stroll to the night market, and Rose, the manager, gives fantastic service with a smile. Go there!

We didn’t stay at The Elephant Boutique Hotel, but we did use its booking service. Our hostel told us there were no train tickets left, while Rose was confident she could find some. We’re glad we trusted her with our onward travel. She made everything much less stressful, and we’d highly recommend the hotel, especially for help arranging onward travel.

We asked to leave after spotting bed bugs on our first night of a five-night booking. They offered us another room, but we were worried about finding more bugs and wanted to check out. We requested a refund for the remaining four nights and were refused. Very disappointing.
