Ock Pop Tok Mekong Villa

The location is a little outside the center, which suited us well as a quiet retreat from the touristy part of town. There's a free tuk tuk to and from the center, and it was easy to call Loca taxis or ask staff to arrange a ride. The grounds were beautiful, and the restaurant served tasty food with an amazing view over the Mekong, a perfect spot for sunset. They even have a treehouse where you can have breakfast. Staff were friendly, gave us a little gift each night, and let us store our bags for a few days after checkout, which we really appreciated. We stayed three nights in Tai Muang. It was lovely for our family, with one big big bed and a single bed separated by a little divider, plus a sweet patio overlooking the river. Being on the site of the living craft centre was a treat. We learned about the weaving process, watched the master weavers at work, and took a fun family friendly natural dying class. We'd definitely recommend staying here.

I came to Ock Pop Tok for a special treat during my time in Laos, and I'm so glad I did. My room was comfortable, well equipped, and beautifully decorated with Laotian crafts. It opened onto a small outdoor sitting area looking through the tropical garden. The property's eco-conscious approach was clear throughout. The best part was being able to enjoy the peaceful, gorgeous surroundings and spend time at the Living Craft Centre. I read about Laotian craft, looked through the displays, and watched master crafts women at work. The natural dying class was so good that I signed up for a bamboo weaving class the next day. Both were great experiences overlooking the Mekong. Breakfast is served at a lovely cafe/restaurant with a river view. The food and coffee were excellent, and I had a delicious cocktail there too. Everyone I met in the restaurant and craft centre was delightful, professional, and beautifully presented. I know I've said lovely and delightful a lot, but Ock Pop Tok really is special. I'm so glad I spent time there. Thank you to everyone at Ock Pop Tok!

As a solo female traveller, I felt safe and had privacy here. The staff helped book a sunset cruise and a car to the waterfalls at a reasonable price. There's a tuk tuk at the hotel for town, less than ten minutes away, and staff offered to pick me up a couple of times. Loca works for Lao taxis too. The fan was loud, and I couldn't quite get the shower temperature right, but those small issues didn't bother me much. Make time for the art centre, it's a great spot for souvenirs. A friend based in Laos recommended this hidden gem, which hadn't shown up on the usual travel booking sites, so I booked straight away. My room overlooking the Mekong river was breathtaking and very Instagrammable, and the staff were kind and friendly. Luang Prabang is one of the most charming places in Southeast Asia, and staying at the villa made the experience unforgettable. Khop chai, Laos!

The treehouse is worth saving a meal for, the views are spectacular and it’s a lovely place to relax. Ock Pop Tok also has a weaving studio and shop with handcrafted items made on site. We enjoyed the varied, delicious food and breakfast, and the chefs deserve a big compliment. Our stay by the Mekong was a highlight of the trip. The sunsets from the terrace are incredible, even as boats gather nearby to watch them. Getting into town was easy with the free shuttle or the free bikes. The resort itself is peaceful and beautifully designed, with a calming feel. We came through Vientiane and Vang Vieng before reaching Luang Prabang, and Laos is stunning. We had a fantastic time at Ock Pop Tok and hope to return, even with so many places left for us to discover. Thanks to everyone there, and good luck with your future projects!
