Phousi Guesthouse

The owner was kind and mostly kept to himself. He wears a hearing aid. The price was excellent for the location and view, and since nobody else was staying, I had the shared bathroom to myself. I had a good stay and would return, especially to the balcony room.

The location made it easy to get around, just a three-minute walk from the markets and close to the ferry pier for excursions. The owner/manager was quiet but seemed ready to help if needed. It's a guesthouse, basically someone's home, so treating the place and its owners with respect helped keep things trouble-free. Our double room was comfortable, with a shared bathroom used by just one other room. It was well maintained and had constant hot water. WiFi was reliable. The room had no window, but the fan worked well. Other rooms had balconies with scenic views, and the communal balcony near the top of the stairs overlooked the river. The walls were thin, though other guests generally respected each other's space. A pleasant, friendly stay.

We booked the balcony room for our honeymoon, but reception kept offering it to the one person staying there. The location is great, but service was lousy and the beds felt like rocks. We stayed one night and won't come back.

I never actually stayed in the guesthouse, so I can only comment on the toilets, which were unclean. The manager cancelled my booking on Booking, which luckily meant I couldn't leave a review there. I booked three nights two days before arriving. At check-in, we were told the previous guest was staying another night and there was no room that day, but we could return the next day for the remaining two nights. Since the location was good, we booked somewhere else for one night and came back the following morning after packing and arranging our move so we could get to the waterfall on time. Then we were told the same thing again, the old guest had booked one more night. I stayed calm even though I was very upset, but the manager showed absolutely no respect. After reading other Google comments, I feel this wasn't the first time he'd acted this way. At least I'm glad not to have given him money he didn't deserve, and instead paid another, much better and more respectful guesthouse.
