Dinner was great, and there’s a good place to eat right next door downstairs. We slept well here, and they were ready to pick us up when we arrived, then take us back down to the pier for the boat the next morning. The lunch you can order to take along is just a baguette that isn’t really a baguette. Its toppings depend on refrigeration, so they won’t last more than an hour or two. You need a ride to get there, but it was included. The bathroom is oddly laid out, with the drain in the opposite corner from the shower, so the whole floor gets wet. I was too tired to look into any other facilities, if there are any.

There’s free transport to and from the slow boat pier. Our room and bathroom were very clean, and the bed was comfortable. It was a good stay, though not superb, and the place wasn’t too noisy. The bathroom drain smelled, but the fans there and the AC in the main room helped make it manageable. Breakfast wasn’t very good, so maybe eat somewhere else.

The restaurant downstairs had good food, and breakfast was included. The room was big and very nice, and it was calm. The staff were nice too. We were on the slow boat via Mekong to Luang Prabang. Take a short walk up to the Tempel at the top of the village, it’s nice 🙂

My group of 8 checked out 5 different guesthouses on foot, and this was easily the best. The room was really clean, with a warm shower and amazing views of the Mekong. Breakfast and the takeaway lunch were both great and quite cheap. The room costs as much as anywhere else, so definitely stay here.

The family who run Villa Mekong and their children were some of the nicest people I’ve met. They were warm and welcoming, and happy to teach us their the Lao language as we began our time in Laos. The room was spacious and incredible, clean, with a view over the Mekong. The restaurant food was beautiful, and they drove us from the pier to the hotel and back in the morning for free. We stopped here on the slow boat to Luang Prabang and I wish we could have stayed longer. What was meant to be just an overnight stop became one of my favourite places in Laos. I’ll be returning to Pakbeng and staying at Villa Mekong. I’d heard mixed opinions about some hotels, but this place and our experience blew me away. Thanks for having us, we’ll be back!
