Otherside Bungalow

The mountain views from the rear bungalows are lovely, and the setting is the real draw. These are the basic fan rooms, though, rather than the more spacious riverside units with AC and glass windows. The newer front bungalows looked much better from outside. The old raised wooden huts could use repairs. My mattress sagged badly, and there were insects in the room, so the mosquito net came in handy. A frog had also made its way inside and was helping with the mosquitoes. The bathroom had quite a bit of mold, although the water was warm. It may be hard to keep mold and bugs away in this heat and humidity, but the huts still need some upkeep. If your budget is very tight, they may work for you, as long as you know what to expect.

We loved the simple, nature-filled feel here, with cows in the garden and little geckos nearby. Our bungalow had a wonderful view, the staff were kind and helpful, and the food was good too, especially the big sandwiches.

The host auntie was so sweet, and there’s laundry service too. Rooms are big and clean for a really good price. It’s close to everything downtown, but set on a side street that stays pretty quiet.

I’m talking only about the outdoor bar by the river bridge. The young men working there during the day were really rude and blatantly misled us about prices. We won’t go back. Was losing a customer worth a few thousand kip?
