Savanh Vangvieng Hotel

The central location in Vang Vieng is convenient, but it means a lot of road noise, and the rooms let nearly all of it in. Breakfast was limited to scrambled or fried eggs, or an omelette. We moved to different accommodation after one night and gave up the rest of our booking. For some peace and quiet, look away from the main roads. The hotel is overpriced for what you get.

I used to stay here often when it was a decent hotel. Since the ownership changed, it’s gone downhill. At check-in the place was completely empty, and for 40-50 dollars a night the breakfast was practically nonexistent. The hot water, TV, and safe were all out of order. It’s easy to see why the hotel is empty. They should charge 20 and improve the service first, because it isn’t at the level the current price suggests. Next time I’d rather stay at S Boutique, Amari, or Intira.

We had a nice stay, with a modern, spacious room, a good location, the usual amenities like tea, coffee, and shampoo, and friendly staff. Breakfast was nice, with sausage, bacon, eggs, pork and vegetables, cereal, and fruit. The shower water wasn’t hot at first, but after I reported it to reception, they fixed it that day. I’d requested a quiet room when booking, but we were put beside the noisy main road.

The room and breakfast were acceptable, but there was almost no service. Across the street, a local restaurant and people nearby played electronic music very loudly through big speakers until midnight. Complaining to the hotel didn’t help, so I had to sleep with earplugs. For a star-rated hotel price, it was less peaceful than a youth hostel.
