L'Auberge de la Mer

The hill view suite was spacious and comfortable, and the location is amazing, but it didn’t feel like a five-star stay. The bathroom smelled bad, and the shower was awkward and open to the room, with no privacy. I even had to turn off the AC to shower. There were no slippers, the towels were very worn, and the shampoo was missing. The body lotion and shower gel had already been used halfway. We paid a lot for two nights, so I really think these basic issues need attention, or the rate should come down. Breakfast was okay, just not the best. Sorry, but I had to be honest.

I was here for three weeks and stayed in four different rooms. They were all clean, with no bad smells, and the service never fell below what I needed. What I came away with most was the feeling of being welcomed into a family. The staff, from reception and the people making homemade breakfast to the cleaners and maintenance team, were friendly, helpful, and ready to accommodate requests. I felt safe and cared for throughout. Maroon, a young local man who works here, especially looked after me when he learned I’d be staying a week beyond my friends’ visit. I’m grateful for the time we spent together, his showing me around, and our balcony conversations. He treated me like family, and I felt like I was leaving a family member behind. The hotel gave me a glimpse of life in Batroun and the unity and hospitality of Lebanese people. If you want a shallow resort-style place with all the bells and whistles, this isn’t for you. But if you want an authentic experience of the culture, I couldn’t recommend another place more. The location is fantastic, and I’m thankful to all the staff, especially Maroon, for making me feel at home.

The sea view suite cost a fortune, but when I returned to my room that night, the damp smell was so strong and unbearable that I had to leave at 3 am. The moisture had me coughing and triggered allergies. It was a nightmare, and one of the most traumatic hotel experiences I’ve had. To me, it’s an example of Lebanon offering expensive, overrated sea views without proper amenities to justify the cost. The staff seemed new and unsure about what amenities were available. I called many times the next day.

The view over Batroun Mina is iconic, and the restaurant had a lovely atmosphere. The seafood was delicious, and the service was 5/5. I loved the whole experience.
