Torraille Waterfall Villas

The falling water is mesmerizing, and it’s fun to stand underneath it. The pool looked a little murky, but people were swimming anyway. It’s a compact place that’s laid out really well, with modern changing stalls and showers. Concrete steps around the waterfall give you somewhere to sit. We arrived around 2:30 pm and mostly had the place to ourselves. At first we weren’t sure where to park. Local ‘guides’ offered to direct us into stone-bordered spots off the road for 10 US dollars. That might not be a bad deal, but we turned back and parked in an empty lay-by about 100m down the road.

The park is quite small, so if you’re coming only for the waterfall, I’d skip it. It’s probably worth it if you also want to swim in the pond beneath the falls or hike the trail. The park is well maintained, with hiking trails, changing rooms, restrooms and a viewing platform overlooking the waterfall. There’s a snack bar inside, plus several vendors outside the gate. Entry costs $3 US or $8 ECD, and they take both American and Eastern Caribbean dollars.

You can hear the water just six feet away from bed, a soft, sultry sound that felt like it reached every endorphin. Toraille Waterfall Villas is the most Zen place I’ve ever stayed. We met the owner, who was humble and accommodating. For a solo trip where you want to feel safe, this is the place. It could work for a yoga retreat, booking the whole facility, or even a wedding. The waterfall, fresh river water, a nearby hot water plunge, Sulphur Springs, nightlife and good food are all about a 10-minute drive or a casual walk away.

A beautiful waterfall, and not as cold as I expected. There are good facilities nearby too.
