7th sky idyll hotel

The room was fairly basic compared with some other places I've stayed, but the air conditioning worked, and the price made sense for what you get. It's easy to reach and right by the beach. The food was delicious, the staff were lovely, and it felt like fantastic value.

The service was very poor. Based on what I experienced, I would think carefully before coming here if your safety or money matters to you. I encountered serious issues with the owner, including threats and inappropriate behavior involving minors. He first approached people with a proposal to partner on a hotel. Please be very cautious around this place and its staff.

Please don't rent a surfboard from this company. The leash on the board I hired snapped while I was out, after about an hour. The surf was 1.2m, and my friends had also fallen off twice. I got caught in a rip over the reef and had to swim for more than 20 minutes to reach the beach. Staff at other surf schools were great and checked if I was okay. When I brought the board back, the owner didn't seem concerned about the faulty leash and asked me straight away for 10000lkr to replace it. A fin had come off too, but I found it and it wasn't damaged. I was given faulty equipment with no care for my safety.

Kabalana beach remains one of my favourite places in SL, and I have great memories there. I hope the hotel improves, because the location has a lot going for it: it's right by the beach, with clear water even when the ocean is rough, close to The Rock and other reef breaks, and the beach break can be fun too. It's generally quiet, perhaps because the stay is overpriced, the food is poor, and the local owner is rude. From outside the hotel looks nice, though there's nothing fancy about it. The mostly European menu costs too much for the quality, and the service disappointed me. Some curries taste amazing when they're made with care. They sometimes try to put on a BBQ, but the food was dried out and overcooked, or hold music events, though those always seemed to leave the place empty. It feels like a promising spot that's missing care and organisation.
