We'd been at Hotel Hemadan for three nights, and the stay was memorable. The owners were warm, attentive, and genuinely caring. Every question or request was handled kindly and right away, which made this small waterfront hotel feel like being welcomed into someone's home. It's secluded and peaceful, yet within walking distance of Bentota beach and everything you need. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with air conditioning and a balcony overlooking the garden and water. All our meals were delicious, with plenty of local dishes and fresh homegrown fruit. They also gave us local recommendations and arranged a boat safari that picked us up right from the hotel. We used the laundry service as well, which was helpful and reasonably priced. I hope everyone visiting the area gets to discover this charming place.

The river gives this small family-run place a tucked-away, peaceful feel. We could spend the day doing as much or as little as we wanted, and the price felt great for what we got. It also felt more like being welcomed into a family home than staying at a hotel, with that warmth and charm we hoped to experience in Sri Lanka. Our room was roomy, clean and comfortable, with air conditioning, a mosquito net and a good bed. The owners and staff were wonderful throughout our three nights. They were happy to help with any request and gave us great suggestions for food and things to do nearby.

The riverfront grounds felt like a little tropical escape from the bustle, and breakfast and lunch were both generous and delicious. Hotel Hemadan is very good value, a real hidden gem. We hope to come back before too long. We spent three days here and found the rooms comfortable, nicely sized and kept very clean. The hotel could use a few general updates, but the service was hard to fault. Hemasiri, the main host, was especially warm and helpful, always smiling and straightforward with us. No request was ignored.

The location is the hotel's strong point: right by the river and close to downtown. My room, though, had no river or garden view, and no proper window, just one facing the corridor. Breakfast wasn't satisfying either. If you're booking, make sure you confirm you'll get a room with a view.
