The Beach Hotel Oasis Bridge

I spent two weeks here for Ayurveda treatment, and it healed an injury I’d had for three years. The food is fantastic, and the staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. I also had a private yoga teacher every afternoon. It’s a great place for a relaxing holiday, with Ambalangoda town easy to reach by bus for 20 rupees or tuk-tuk for 200 rupees. As a woman travelling alone, I felt safe, cared for, and at home. I’d absolutely recommend this gem on the Sri Lankan coast.

We feel very lucky to have found this ayurvedic resort. The treatments were impressively well organised and could be tailored to the length of a guest’s stay. We were there for 9 days, which felt like a good introduction to ayurvedic medicine. The doctor and massage staff were knowledgeable and attentive to the patient and guest needs, and we were extremely satisfied with the treatments. The hotel staff and managers had a great understanding of customer service. Everyone was super friendly, dedicated, and passionate about their work, always glad to go the extra mile to meet guests’ wishes and expectations. The street is very loud, though that’s true of all the hotels along the main road. The staff and house were nice, and the upstairs terrace was a wonderful spot to watch the sunset. There’s a nice pool for swimming and the massages were very good. The food was mostly good. Better doctor consultations, refreshed linen and outdoor cushions, and more plants could make this a great place. If you don’t speak English, things might be a bit complicated.

The Ayurvedic doctor who speaks English well didn’t seem interested in explaining the treatments, medicines, or her diagnosis. Another doctor barely speaks English. There was no specific food for the different doshas, which was disappointing since I thought diet was a fundamental part of Ayurvedic medicine. The pool was cleaned while guests were swimming, and rooms were cleaned while people were resting in them. Rooms are very small. The sea-view rooms open onto a large terrace shared by all guests, and even the bathroom windows face it, so privacy is very limited. Other rooms have no windows at all. Next time, I’ll spend a few bucks more.
