Miridiya Lake Resort

The location is handy, close to CIB shopping complex, and the surroundings are peaceful and well-kept. Miridiya Lake Resort in Anuradhapura is a quaint, quiet property with a lovely natural setting that makes it easy to relax. That closeness to nature also means insects, so bring bug repellent. The food was good and satisfying, with comforting flavors after a long day exploring. A serene, comfortable stay if you want somewhere quiet near nature.

The rooms were a letdown for the price. They were old and looked poorly maintained, with fungus in the sinks and an odd smell. I asked for a deluxe double room, but got two single beds pushed together, which was really uncomfortable to sleep in. The owner should take responsibility and make these changes. This is a nice hotel in a great location, with good staff, especially Mr Niroshan, who served us at the restaurant. He was friendly and gave us good service. Staff overall were good and looked after our needs. The hotel could improve, and hopefully it happens soon so they don’t lose customers. Best of luck to the hotel Team! It’s right by the lake with a lovely view, and a nice spot for an evening stroll.

The setting is lovely, right beside the lake, and I spotted fireflies after dark. The grounds feel very idyllic, and I loved the big pool, which seemed to use natural water. Our room was spacious and clean, with a comfortable bed. The outdoor bathroom was a nice touch, though the mosquitoes are something to keep in mind. There’s a pleasant open-air restaurant, protected from wildlife, and they feed the chipmunks away from the buffet. One downside for anyone visiting now is the huge construction project next door. They worked until 11pm on a weekday while we were there. The room’s soundproofing helped, but the work looks like it could go on for a long time.

We ended up cutting our stay short. The staff were very accommodating, and I appreciate that they’re building a new facility, but the existing rooms need more upkeep. Our first room had an outdoor bathroom, so mosquitoes could get in whenever we went in or out. The replacement rooms were adequate, though their bathrooms were very dated, the fittings were rusty, and the hot water didn’t work properly. One room had a connecting door to the kitchen and bar area, which made it noisy at night.
