Taj Samudra

The staff were kind and hospitable, the food was amazing, and I really enjoyed the gym and pool. I stayed for four nights for a conference and had a lovely room facing the lake, though the nighttime noise meant I changed rooms after two nights. They were very accommodating and moved me to a room facing the Galle Face green. It was quieter on the first night, then a bit noisy the second because of an event on the Green, which finished around 11 pm. I enjoyed the stay overall.

Dinner at Ports of Call was disappointing. It was included in our half-board package, but the buffet was average and the service felt disengaged. The restaurant wasn’t busy, yet nobody really checked on us, and some food went cold while we waited for bread. Lunch at Yumi, by contrast, was good. We stayed at Taj Samudra in Colombo for one night before flying home, mainly for convenience. We’d booked a Deluxe Sea View room, but it felt average in size and atmosphere, and after several boutique luxury resorts it didn’t seem especially romantic or memorable. We arrived around 12:30 pm and knew check-in was at 2 pm. We were told an early check-in might be possible only if we switched to a non-sea-view room, so we waited a couple of hours for the room we’d booked. As a transit stay it did what we needed, but among our other hotels it ranked sixth.

The location is great for beach lovers, and the amenities are excellent. We had a pleasant family vacation, with courteous, attentive and polite staff, plus great food and drinks. The head chef at Navratna restaurant was especially helpful. Thanks for the service. Taj always impresses its guests with top-notch hospitality. A great place in Colombo for a stay with friends or family.

We felt less like hotel guests and more like we were at home. The stay was extremely comfortable, and the care for our 16 month old baby made the experience especially wonderful. A heartfelt thanks to the restaurant team, Harsha, Lasantha, Malaka, Chathura, Dipasha, and Thushara, for being so attentive and kind. Indunil deserves a special mention for personally helping customise meals for our baby. That meant a lot to us as parents. The service desk team were also lovely. Nisansala and Anjalee greeted us with warm smiles, patience and genuine care, and every interaction felt welcoming. Taj Samudra really understands hospitality for families travelling with young children. We’re deeply grateful, highly recommend it, and look forward to coming back.
