The staff at Gaia Lake Bungalow were wonderful, attentive and friendly. They sorted out every little issue right away. We arrived before check-in and that was fine, and they moved lunch to 4 pm so we could settle into the rooms first. Priya the manager communicates exceptionally well in perfect English and was terrific. We had breakfast at the villa daily and tried some other meals from the chef, whose delicious Sri Lankan cooking we highly recommend. The cooking class with him and Priya was great fun. We were three adults and two children, aged 8 and 10, and spent five wonderful days here. The setting by Kandalama Lake is amazing, with a spectacular lake view and mountains behind it. The garden wildlife is incredible, especially the variety of birds. The villa is tucked away in a local village where everyone was unbelievably nice, yet Dambulla and Sigiriya are easy to reach by PickMe or tuk-tuk. The villa is very spacious, with large rooms, a full bathroom, and a well-functioning A/C plus fan in each room. Beds are quite comfortable. One bedroom is in the separate poolhouse and that worked fine for us. Some areas feel a touch dated, but everything is functional and staff are constantly improving the property. With all the nature around, geckos may sometimes get into the rooms, but it didn't bother us. Keep doors and windows shut and mosquitos aren't a problem indoors. Everything was very clean and working when we arrived, and the large pool stayed very clean throughout our stay. We feel lucky to have stayed here and recommend it to anyone, 10 out of 10 from us!
