The place was clean and quiet, and I liked the atmosphere. Breakfast was a nice extra!

We booked through Booking.com, but check-in was very frustrating. Several dogs were outside the hotel when we arrived, and although we were standing right in front of the place, nobody answered the phone for over 30 minutes. They finally called after an hour and apologized, but the whole thing felt very unprofessional and irresponsible. We don’t recommend staying at The Calm Cabana.

The owner was very kind, but the room was in terrible shape. It wasn’t clean, the pillow under the cover smelled bad and was really moldy, and there were cockroaches and frogs inside. The hot water wasn’t working either.

The accommodation is tucked away in a lovely, quiet part of Dambulla, near the Cave Temple. Check-in was smooth, and Tharaka was available throughout our two-night stay and very helpful. He asked about our plans and offered a ride to Sigirya Rock for sunrise at a fair price. A taxi or Uber would have cost more. He also picked us up when we called and took us to a breakfast place. After we’d eaten our fill, he stopped at several beautiful spots on the way back and shared great insights about Dambulla and his own life. We had a really nice time thanks to him. Highly recommended!

Our short stay was very pleasant. The property is beautifully maintained, the rooms are very clean, and there are hammocks too. Having your own transport would be best, but the nearest town isn’t very far, so don’t let that put you off.
