It used to be better, but the place has gone downhill. Our rice and curry with shrimp came with just three tiny shrimp. The dishes arrived one by one, so the food was cold by the time everything was served. The beer wasn’t cold either, and the grilled crab I ordered was really greasy.

It’s right on the beach, with different places to sit, plus swimming and sunbathing and even an Instagram swing. The sandwiches are on the small side, though the rice portions are a usual generous size. Tasty smoothies and friendly staff.

We had a tasty lunch and found the staff pleasant and helpful. The food took around 20 minutes, and our cool beers came in chilled glasses. The restaurant and toilets were clean, with no flies or insects. There were five of us, three adults and two kids, visiting Mahi Mahi Beach Restaurant on 24 December 2019. The view over the blue sea and wide white sandy beach was beautiful. Bright colors made the restaurant and furniture eye-catching, and there were beach chairs, hammocks, and swings outside. Alongside the restaurant we saw five small container-style chalets and a spice and souvenir shop. We spent about an hour enjoying the meal and the pleasant atmosphere. We ordered kottu, fried rice, and salad for the adults, and fish, chips, and spaghetti bolognese for the kids, plus juice and beer. Everyone agreed the food was tasty.

For a bit of snorkeling, they provide goggles and kits free of charge. If you’re lucky, you might spot sea turtles or fish around the rock, though watch out if the water is rough because there’s an undercurrent that could pull you along if you’re not careful. The food was good, nicely presented, and very neat, with some unusual combinations like Pork and Prawn Kottu. My family and I found our meals a little bland, so if you’re Lankan or Asian, ask them to add more spice. The place is nicely laid out, cozy, comfortable, and sunny. It’s only about 20 meters from the main road, but it’s so well covered that it feels much farther from roads and civilization.

The food and service were the worst I’ve had in a long time, with the restaurant seeming to cater to Russians. When I asked the waiter to turn down the loud music, he sneered and turned it up instead. The beer was warm, and the curry came within minutes, so it didn’t seem freshly cooked. The manager, who was Russian, agreed that the rooms didn’t look like the photos. Come if you’re Russian. All sadly true.
