Dutch Wall

I had a very comfortable four-poster bed in a room up two flights of teak stairs, with an ocean view. The family who own the place are incredible hosts, full of local knowledge and helpful advice. The service is excellent but still feels personal and warm. They also arranged our airport cab back, and it was on time. The breakfast is a fabulous spread, so don’t miss it. Dutch Wall sits at the quiet end of Church Street, with a discreet entrance and a surprisingly spacious interior. Being in the historic Fort also means hearing the nearby mosque’s morning call to prayer. It adds to the local atmosphere, though light sleepers should keep it in mind. I had a very good stay and honestly didn’t want to leave. If you’re after a quiet, picturesque place with character, this is it.

We felt lucky to find this unusual place. Dutch Wall Fort Villa sits at the edge of the fort, facing the ocean, and our stay was magnificent. The hosts were warm, friendly, and helpful, and nothing seemed to be a problem. The generous homemade breakfast, with authentic food, was delicious.

I didn’t want to leave. Hasan and his family were welcoming, provided excellent service, and gave us plenty of local advice and support. Breakfast was fabulous too. My room was up two flights of teak stairs and had an ocean view, a beautiful four-poster bed that made sleep easy, a desk, soft carpets, and a large bathroom. The entrance is discreet and picturesque, but inside the restored 300-year-old house is spacious and cool. Galle Fort has plenty of attractions, many deservedly so, yet Dutch Wall stands out. Its location at the breezy ocean end of Church Street is lovely. It’s a quiet haven in Galle, and I warmly recommend it.

The hosts were so welcoming, and breakfast was top notch. It’s easy to reach, right inside the fort and close to amenities and lots of restaurants. We had a wonderful stay and would absolutely recommend it.
