Shiny Lakeside Resort

The food really wasn't worth what we paid. Lunch and dinner came with the same rice, and breakfast was half a loaf of bread with dhal curry. The server said they'd been late getting string hoppers that day. The food was average, and the room wasn't good either. My wife and I stayed here a month ago. We first booked bed and breakfast, then switched to the full-board package, from Rs. 11,000 to Rs. 21,000. Service was very bad. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

The pool was clear and well looked after, and the day-out package felt like good value for the price. We also enjoyed the welcome drink. Our lunch was tasty and nicely prepared, but unfortunately it arrived cold. There was some confusion about the boat activity: we expected a Hansa boat, but were offered a kayaking safari. Conditions made kayaking difficult, so we skipped it and went back to our room.

The waiters were so friendly and the service from them was great, hats off to them. I'd like to come back and try staying in a better room. Best wishes to Shiny Group too, one of my favorite music bands. Good luck!

Dancing to the DJ after such a long time was a lot of fun, and the lake with the floating dining areas gave the evening a special feel. The buffet itself was a highlight too, with tasty dishes that felt home-cooked and had no artificial flavors. Fresh fruit for dessert helped make up for a welcome drink that put me off at the start. For 1890 LKR per person, including pool access, it seemed like a good deal. Service was slow. There were about 30 diners and just one waiter bringing water, so my request took 25 minutes. Another disappointment was that there was no beer, and nobody mentioned whether we could bring our own, which would have been useful for a get-together with friends. Even with those issues, I enjoyed the dinner buffet and would recommend it for a pleasant evening out.
