Traveller's Hikkaduwa Hotel

The location is convenient, close to the beach, restaurants, and local attractions, while still quiet enough for a restful stay. The hotel has a peaceful feel, and my stay at Traveller’s Hotel Hikkaduwa was pleasant and relaxing from check-in through departure. My room was clean, comfortable, and well cared for, a great place to rest. The staff were kind, friendly, and ready to help with a smile. Their genuine hospitality added a lot of warmth. Good comfort and service in a handy location. I’d happily stay here again and recommend it.

We booked three nights, but left after the first one and would definitely not stay here again. The place looked nothing like the pictures when we arrived. The sheets had stains, the pool was dirty, and the fans did not cool the rooms. Breakfast was said to be included in the price, but we were told we’d have to pay extra. It was dirty everywhere, far too hot to sleep, and there were several cockroaches in the rooms. When we asked for a refund for the other two nights, they immediately threatened to call the police. The staff were aggressive and couldn't accept any criticism of the accommodation. Even for a cheap stay, it was not worth the money.

After some negotiation, I paid an advance to confirm three AC rooms and one non-AC room for Jan 9/10, though we had originally wanted four AC rooms and this arrangement wasn't ideal for us. I had contacted hotel management beforehand, and availability was limited at the time. We arrived a couple of hours later than planned and were shocked to be told the booking was no longer reserved, despite the advance payment. Management then tried to renegotiate, offering three non-AC rooms and just one AC room, and falsely saying that was what we had booked. The lack of transparency, poor communication between management and staff, and absence of a clear booking policy made us very uncomfortable. I decided not to stay after being wrongly accused and treated unprofessionally. It felt like they were trying to push leftover rooms onto us, possibly because we're locals. The experience cost us half a day and ruined our plans. Fortunately, we found another nearby hotel for half the price, in a better location, with honest and reliable management. I hope the hotel takes this seriously and puts proper systems in place so this DOES NOT HAPPEN TO OTHER GUESTS AGAIN.

The room was spacious, clean, and well maintained, with everything neatly arranged and comfortable for resting after a long day. Staff were polite, friendly, and genuinely willing to help with a smile. Their sincere hospitality made the stay more enjoyable. It offers good value and comfort, and I’d recommend it for solo travelers, couples, families, and friends. I’d happily come back.
