Malabar home stay

I rarely leave a bad review, but we felt misled by the reviews, which may have been fake or outdated, or perhaps management changed. This was the worst place we’ve stayed, and sadly our first visit to Jaffna. A friend had recommended it, and the reviews helped us choose it, but problems started as soon as we arrived. The guest house hadn’t been cleaned before check-in. There was sand all over the floor, blamed on the rain, and no proper carpets or mats to wipe our feet. The rooms were untidy, the bed linen smelled unpleasant, and the cheap beds and mattresses were uncomfortable enough to make sleeping difficult. The washroom was also in very poor shape. There were no door locks or towel racks, so we had to leave towels outside. The drainage was faulty, and dirty, soapy water pooled up to our ankles while we showered. The kitchen smelled strongly unpleasant, was unhygienic and infested with cockroaches. There was no water heater or proper kitchen equipment. Before we arrived, the manager or caretaker, Adhi, was polite and responsive on the phone. At the property, he was unhelpful. Within ten minutes he demanded full payment, then disappeared. He said he’d provide tea and asked us to bring milk, but never did. When we tried to make it ourselves, there wasn’t even anything to boil milk in. We couldn’t reach him because his phone was off for over half an hour. In the end, we had to clean the rooms, lobby and kitchen ourselves. It was extremely unpleasant and unacceptable. There were many other issues, and I can’t fully put our disappointment into words. Please don’t rely only on the reviews when choosing this place.
