Inside, the place felt clean, comfortable, and quite modern, even though the building looked a little old from outside. The air-conditioning worked very well and the hot water was very hot, so it felt like good value for the money. There’s also a large yard with plenty of parking, which is handy if you’re driving. We arrived at night and could clearly hear the powerful ocean waves. The sound was surprisingly relaxing and comforting, almost like natural white noise. The view was lovely in the morning, and the waves were still just as strong.

The caretaker was helpful in every way and made our two-night stay from 29th to 31st Jan very pleasant. You can hear the ocean thumping, but we still found Villa Whispering Shells relaxing. It’s a beautiful, quiet place to chill, and not very far from Kalutara North station. I’d recommend a visit if that’s what you’re after.

There’s a nice garden at the front where you can sit, and the beach further along from the hotel is lovely, with lots of beach bars scattered along it. The villa itself was great value, with delicious home-cooked food at very reasonable prices and generous portions. We also had a truly wonderful, kind staff member. The only bad experience was with the street dogs in nearby areas. They weren’t very welcoming to newcomers. That’s separate from the villa, though, which we really couldn’t fault.

The staff are very friendly, and the surroundings are clean and quiet. One thing to know: Google Maps says the coastal access road near Tangerine Hotel is blocked because of sea erosion, so it’s advisable to take the road beyond it. It’s best not to travel at night.

The food was exceptionally delicious, and the peaceful surroundings made for a really tranquil stay. Villa Whispering Shells is in a stunning location with spectacular views. We did notice cockroaches in the bathroom at certain times, which was unsettling. There was also a notice in the room asking guests not to move the chairs, which was a slight inconvenience. Apart from those issues, everything else was charming and enjoyable. Thanks for the memorable stay.
