The owner spontaneously offered us a sunrise yoga session, which was a lovely surprise. We only stayed one night, which felt too short. There are opportunities for hiking and cooking classes, and though it’s a little out of the way, sometimes the good places are like that. The views down the valley and across to the mountains are spectacular.

The meals cooked by the host Suba were so good. We had the vegetarian meal, and it was the best food we ate during our 10 day trip to Sri Lanka. At the Hanthana house, the drive up is a little steep, but the room was clean and spacious, and we enjoyed our stay.

Mack really went out of his way to help us find another driver, and he knows the area well and speaks excellent English. What made our time at Hanthana House feel special, though, was how warmly he and his family welcomed us. They even took us up to the hilltop to watch children flying kites. We felt right at home, like part of the family.

Getting to the hotel along those roads was the one small hassle. Once there, I found the room very clean and comfortable, and the staff were kind and helpful. The mountain view from the location was lovely, and I had a fantastic stay.

The hosts made us feel welcome, and they cooked us some delicious traditional food. Our room and bed were really comfortable too, with a lovely view out into nature. We had a great stay at the Hanthana House.
