The Fortress Balumgala

Balumgala viewpoint is a short hike away and the views are stunning. The villa sits inside a plantation, so it was completely peaceful, and the road from the main road is paved all the way. There’s no swimming pool yet, but we were able to relax and enjoy the friendly service. The rooms and amenities were good, and caretaker Indika was especially supportive. Staff also made tasty food from the menu and ingredients we brought, including a really good BBQ. We stayed from 20th to 21st July 2024.

The balcony view and the sounds of nature made the stay feel wonderfully peaceful. The beds were comfortable, the shower was warm, and the staff were very helpful. We only stayed for one night, unfortunately. Just a note about breakfast: the photos make it look different from what we got, though it tasted good and we enjoyed it.

Balumgala rock is just a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel, and the view from there is amazing. We booked the whole villa in February 2021 and enjoyed the tasty food, especially the BBQ evening and the great breakfast. The manager, chef, and other staff were lovely. There isn’t a hotel pool, but the manager helpfully arranged access to a nearby one when we asked. The Google Maps location was a bit off, so after reaching the map location we had to ask the staff for help. I’d happily recommend the hotel.

The food was the best part for me, and the staff were caring and friendly. The place is newly built, with a lovely hill view, and Belumgala rock has a breathtaking view after a 40 minute walk. The rooms are clean and have what you need, though they lack the elegant feel of a high-end hotel and aren’t soundproof. There’s no pool, and the price felt too high, but the credit card discount made it okay. I think two nights may be the most you’d enjoy here, though I’d like to go again someday.
