Hotel Sunflower

There’s plenty of room indoors and outside the rooms, and you can play little games like carom or table tennis. We had delicious dinner and breakfast there, too. The rooms were very clean, the pool was well looked after, and the staff made us feel at home. Hotel Sunflower is close to the iconic places, and it worked well for us. I’d stay again and recommend it for families and larger groups.

The washrooms were dirty and unhygienic, which made the stay really uncomfortable. We were told before booking that there’d be hot water, but there was none when we arrived. The flow was so slow that using it was difficult. There was no phone signal either, so we couldn’t even make a call in an emergency. Staff knew about the signal problem but didn’t provide WiFi. This place is poorly maintained and misleading, and I don’t think it’s worth the price. I wouldn’t recommend it.

It’s a decent option if all you need is somewhere to sleep for the night. The place is about 400 meters from Katharagama Devalaya, right in the heart of katharagama city, and the staff were lovely and helpful. Food was okay, though not great. With the car park under construction, the rooms were dusty, and we found a cockroach in ours. The pool didn’t seem properly maintained, and there weren’t clear rules. People got in without proper swimming attire and ate while in the pool, which wasn’t appropriate.

The pool was dirty and seemed unhygienic, and hotel lights were switched off before 9pm, so we had to use our phone lights. When foreign guests arrived, the lights, including those around the pool, were all turned on. They were welcomed warmly and offered drinks, while we weren’t. When we asked about the difference, staff responded rudely. Apart from the receptionist, the staff were very unprofessional. Local and foreign guests should all be treated equally.
